In Must Know News:
- Tensions are continuing to rise between Lebanon and Israel as 492 people were killed and 1,650 were injured in Israeli airstrikes on Monday. Israeli officials said 1,300 of those struck were “terrorist targets.” In retaliation, Hezbollah launched rockets at an Israeli military post, but Israeli officials reported no deaths and one person injured. An I-D-F spokesperson said that the strikes will continue and that Israeli forces intend to dismantle Hezbollah’s infrastructure.
- Ryan Routh, the man accused of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, apparently wrote a letter earlier this month outlining his plan to kill the former president and— get this— offering $150,000 to anyone who would finish the job. Here’s a brief excerpt from the note: Dear world, this was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump– I tried my best and [gave] it all the gumption I could muster.”
- The White House proposed a ban on Chinese and Russian tech in American cars. With this ban, the Biden administration hopes to protect Americans from bad actors who might be trying to remotely control automobiles and collect their data. The Department of Commerce launched an investigation into the tech in February, citing that car sensors, cameras and microphones absorb a lot of sensitive information.
- The Colorado man who shot and killed 10 people at a Boulder supermarket was found guilty. The jury took just six hours to come back with defendant Ahmad Alissa’s verdict– guilty on all 55 charges. They ultimately rejected Alissa’s insanity defense, and he was sentenced to life in prison. Glad the families of the victims are getting the justice they deserve.
- According to an FBI report released Monday, violent crime decreased last year by 3%, with murders and nonnegligent dropping nearly 12% and the murder rate overall seeing the largest single-year decline in 20 years. Interestingly enough, however, last year also saw an increase in car thefts. I guess everyone just got excited at the announcement of GTA6…
