In Must Know News…
- The Supreme Court upheld a Trump-era tax on offshore investments this Thursday, ruling against a Washington state couple who argued against the tax’s constitutionality in a 7 to 2 majority. Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who wrote the majority opinion on the case, made a point of stating that the court’s decision did not implicate a wealth tax, despite speculation from some conservative groups.
- New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed a bill Thursday aiming to restrict “addictive feeds” on social media for users under the age of 18, the latest in a recent fight against social media’s ill effects on children. The “Safe for Kids Act” also requires new verification tools and will bar notifications from social media platforms between 12-6 a.m. unless users have parental consent. Say goodbye to late night Snapchats…
- The Biden administration has announced its plans to ban US companies and citizens from using the antivirus software developed by the major Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky, claiming the Russian government’s influence over the company posed a serious risk to national security. Sales of products that use Kaspersky software under a different brand name are also to be barred. So long Kaspersky! Or, as the Russians say, Do svidaniya!

- Legendary actor Donald Sutherland died at 88 yesterday. He was best known for his roles in ‘M*A*S*H’ and as President Snow in ‘The Hunger Games.’
- The LA Lakers hired JJ Redick as their new head coach after Darvin Ham was fired last month. Many believe Redick is a surprising choice for the star-studded team due to him having absolutely zero coaching experience. I guess we’ll see how his on-court moves translate soon enough.
- The FBI discovered the lone suspect in a 1996 double murder case to be a convicted rapist who died in jail several years ago. DNA evidence connected the suspect to the crime with only a 1 in 2.6 trillion chance of his innocence, hopefully bringing some peace to the victim’s families.
- Famed rapper Travis Scott was arrested after yelling at boaters while drunk in Miami Beach. When police arrived, they ordered him to leave the area, but saw him return minutes later to continue cussing out the passengers. When asked why he did it, he simply said, “It’s Miami.”
