Goooood Morning! Welcome to Current2, brought to you by Just Bagels. My name is Gabe, today is August 1st, and let’s get to the news!

In Must Know News:

  • Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, an inmate at Guantanamo Bay accused of being the mastermind of the Al Qaida 9/11 attacks, has agreed to enter a plea deal. The Defense Department announced on Wednesday that Mohammed and two other accomplices will plea guilty as soon as next week for life long sentences in the terrorist attack that killed nearly 3,000 people in 2001.
  • It has been confirmed that Hamas’ top political leader has been killed in an airstrike in Iran on Wednesday. Iran has placed blame on Israel, saying the assassination now puts a full-out regional war at risk. Iran’s supreme leader has vowed revenge against Israel, and Netanyahu stated that they would ‘enact a heavy price’ referring to the increased aggression against Israel, but did not mention the assassination.
  • Donald Trump clearly can’t read a room as he delivered a racially questionable monologue on Wednesday at the country’s largest annual gathering of Black journalists regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ heritage. Trump said, quote ‘is she Indian or is she Black?’ and further attacked her public identity. Trump’s comments were met with jeers and not much support, while giving Harris the perfect platform to tell voters that if there isn’t change, this is what is in store for the next four years.
  • A new lawsuit against the online ticket platform Stubhub has accused the company of using predatory sales tactics to mislead customers into spending up to 40% more on tickets. According to Washington, D.C.’s Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb, Stubhub tricks its users by enticing them with an initial low price that hides mandatory fees until just before shoppers make their purchase. Talk about scummy.
  • USA Olympian Katie Ledecky won gold in the 1,500 meter freestyle this Wednesday, securing her 12th career medal and tying Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres, and Natalie Coughlin for the most medals ever won by an American female swimmer. Oh, and she also won her eighth gold medal in the process. All she does is win, win, win, no matter what!
