Hello everybody! My name is Gabe, today is Tuesday, July 16th, and you're listening to Current2, brought to you by Just Bagels!

In Must Know News:

  • Trump came in with a surprising pick for his running mate for the 2024 ballot on the first day of the Republican National Convention. 39-year-old JD Vance, an Ohio senator who was originally a staunch critic of Trump now turned loyal ally, will make history as the first millennial to join a major party ballot as age becomes a growing concern in November’s election. In related news, Trump’s classified documents trial has been dismissed regarding the unconstitutional appointment of special counsel Jack Smith. What a comeback!
  • The Chinese Communist economy is in hot water as the “Third Plenum” meeting to discuss growth revealed a 4.7% growth in the second quarter, a number both weaker and slower than hoped for. China’s leader Xi Jinping will be meeting with 370 other economists this week in a closed door conference away from the public to discuss how to bring the world’s second biggest economy out of the pit.
  • Spain is officially the Euro 2024 champion in a tight 2-1 win against England on Sunday. One of our journalists currently in Germany has been seeing Spanish flags parading through the streets as all of Europe celebrates the defeat of the UK team. In other enthusiastic news, the Copa América game between Argentina and Colombia was delayed by almost 90 minutes due to “hooligans” storming the Hard Rock Stadium. Argentina managed to beat Colombia, but it was somewhat overshadowed before it even began.

In Other Notable News:

  • A suspected serial killer in Kenya confessed to murdering 42 women over the past two years after being arrested Monday. The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, and his arrest has sparked nationwide calls in Kenya against gender-based violence.
  • Scientists have confirmed the existence of a cave on the moon that could be used to house astronauts on future voyages. The cave is located at the Sea of Tranquility, and is in fact just 250 miles from the Apollo 11 landing site; when the moon has a cave that’s on-ly miles away, that’s amore!
  • The world’s rarest whale may have washed ashore in New Zealand Monday. The creature, believed to be the spade-toothed whale, measured five meters long and was identified from the shape of its skull and its distinctive color patterns. Not that it’s striped or polka-dotted or anything that cool though…
  • A 75-year-old man who went missing in Maine’s Mount Blue State Park last week was found alive four days later in a bog. The man reportedly fell over a ledged embankment near the park’s scenic overlook, and is now in surprisingly good condition.

If you liked this episode, make sure to send it over to your friends, whether they’re into moon caves, rare whales, or whatever, we got it all. Have a wonderful Tuesday, and thanks for listening to Current2, the easy way to stay informed!
