- The first total solar eclipse since 2017 will cross North America today, and 15 states will experience complete visibility. The eclipse will start around 11 am PDT in Mexico and travel through Texas and up to Canada, so make sure to look up the map! NASA is also asking eclipse viewers to observe and record peculiar animal behavior to better understand how eclipse’s affect ecosystems with the “false dusk”. Have fun out there and make sure you wear your glasses!
- An earthquake on the east coast shook cities in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey on Friday. The 4.8 magnitude quake had its epicenter in New Jersey, and luckily no life-threatening situations have been reported. This was one of the largest earthquakes to hit the east coast in over a century, and many people have taken to the internet to share videos of their shaky encounter.
- Ecuador faces international outrage after storming the Mexico embassy in Quito to arrest former President Jorge Glas. Mexico has suspended diplomatic ties with Ecuador and have vowed legal action at the International Court of Justice, calling the raid a “violation of international law.”
