- A Singapore Airlines flight was hit with such severe turbulence that it resulted in one passenger’s death and left seven critically injured after an emergency landing in Bangkok. The flight from London to Singapore reportedly fell into an air-pocket around ten hours into its journey, whereafter the pilot declared a medical emergency as passengers and crew were flung around the plane’s cabin. The deceased passenger was later identified as a 73-year old British man.
- The UN suspended food distribution in Rafah this Tuesday following security concerns and a lack of supplies as Israel continues into southern Gaza. The UN also warned that the new U.S. pier for delivering aid to Gaza could fail unless Israel meets the conditions necessary for humanitarian groups to operate safely. Meanwhile, police broke up a pro-Palestinian encampment at the University of Michigan days after protestors placed fake body bags in front of one school official’s home.
- Gunmen killed at least 40 people in the Zurak and Dakai villages of Nigeria’s north-central Plateau state this Monday. According to local police, this attack follows a similar pattern of violence between herders and farmers for control of the region’s land and water resources. The fleeing gunmen killed nine additional people and burned down six houses in their escape. Residents say that the death toll is much higher than that listed in the report.
