In Must Know News…
- The Supreme Court preserved a South Carolina congressional redistricting that some claimed was racial gerrymandering. The redistricting strengthened Republican hold on the state’s coast by excluding 30,000 democratic-leaning black residents from the district. Liberal justices warned that the ruling may make it harder to fight racial discrimination in electoral maps.
- The US Justice Department sued Ticketmaster for their alleged illegal monopoly over live events. They accused the company of using threats to suffocate competition, buy up venues and promotions, and assert copious fees on fans. If successful, the lawsuit may result in more competitive prices for artists and fans, though Ticketmaster argues the actual price of tickets won’t go down.
- The police officer who arrested and was allegedly struck by top golfer Scottie Scheffler did not have his body camera on during the incident. As a result, there is no clear evidence of Scheffler dragging the officer with his car, as described in the arrest report. The officer has since been disciplined while Scheffler plans to plead not guilty to felony assault charges.
