For those who read...
Hello everyone! My name is Jake and today is Tuesday, July 9th. We’re bringing you your entertainment news with Current2 Pop Culture, brought to you by Just Bagels, the best NYC bagels delivered right to your doorstep!
Let’s start off strong with some social media standouts…
- If anyone has fallen victim to Netflix’s “Love Island UK” binge-worthy-ness, you might have seen the drama-filled events happening this season at the villa. Monday’s ’Movie Night’ episode uncovered love triangles, bombshell confessions, and rumors about a fan favorite leaving the villa after dumping their partner. Monday’s episode gartered 1.5 million viewers, making it the show’s third biggest audience so far. So if you aren’t caught up yet, you better hurry! I definitely fall into that category so maybe I’ll go check it out too.
- Call me unwell, because NBC is bringing in the big guns with “Call Her Daddy” podcast host Alex Cooper set to host a watch party from Paris during the Summer Olympics. NBC’s decision to bring in Cooper stems from the success of her podcast, deeming her the world’s most successful female podcaster, in order to increase female viewership for the broadcasting conglomerate. Cooper will be streaming live on Peacock and will also record her own content sponsored by NBCU leading up to the games.
- And Jay Johnston, actor and comedian known best for his roles in “Anchorman” and as Jimmy Pesto in “Bob’s Burgers,” has pleaded guilty for police interference during the January 6th riot in the U.S. Capitol where he faces up to 5 years in prison. Johnston was removed from his role in “Bob’s Burgers” immediately after the news broke in 2021, and I bet Bob’s happy…

Let’s Slide back in with some Screen Sightings…
- Scarlett Johansson will be joining the cast of Jurassic World 4, with franchise alum welcoming her during her press tour for her upcoming film “Fly Me to the Moon” that hits theaters this week, with the message, “don’t get eaten!” The film is set to release in 2025 as the 7th installment to the Jurassic Park series, because surely a theme park with reanimated dinosaurs can’t fail a 7th time, right?
- The fourth episode of season 2 of the Game of Thrones spin-off “House of the Dragon” premiered on Monday, and it was a doozy. The conclusion of the episode has many fans staring at the rolling credits after an hour of epic dragon battles, fights for the crown, and deaths and unknown fates of some of the major characters. I know I wanted to yell ‘dracarys’ at my phone after watching…
And finally to wrap up today with the rhythm report…
- Eminem has really put mystery into rap as he uses complex Easter eggs to tease the release of his upcoming album, “The Death of Slim Shady,” releasing on the 12th. Dr. Dre announced in his first late-night TV appearance in 30 years that he would be featured on the album, and in an Instagram picture posted back in 2022 by Eminem, he is seen in the studio with Dre and Snoop Dogg, leading fans to believe that Snoop will also be a feature. Magician David Blaine helped Eminem in a video tease the lead single “Houdini”, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June. It looks like Slim is going out with a bang.
