- Donald Trump gave his clearest stance yet on abortion rights, saying the decision should be left to the states. He has been met with backlash from leading anti-abortion groups and fellow Republicans on the issue. On the same day, his bid to delay next week’s criminal trial in New York was denied. The trial will focus on falsified business records relating to the former president’s hush money payments.
- Country singer Morgan Wallen was arrested after throwing a chair off of a sixth-story bar in Nashville. He now faces three felony charges and one misdemeanor after the chair landed just feet away from two police officers. Wallen is one of the biggest names in contemporary country music, with his album “One Thing at a Time” being the most listened to album in 2023.
- The NAIA, a small-college sports association, banned transgender female athletes from participating in women’s sports. The ban also extends to all transgender men and nonbinary students who are receiving masculinizing hormone therapy. In a similar decision, the Vatican reaffirmed its opposition to gender-affirming surgery and surrogacy, saying that these procedures threaten human dignity.
