Big Names and Bigger Stories…
- An Action Comics No. 1 print from 1938 with the first appearance of Superman just sold for $6 million last Thursday, making it the most valuable comic book in existence. The comic’s original price when it was released was a whopping 10 cents, close to 2 dollars today. The publication of this comic predates DC comics, the new owner of Superman, and only 200,000 copies were printed.
- The 2024 CMT awards took place last Sunday, with new country music star Jelly Roll taking home major awards. Jelly Roll began his career as a hip hop artist and rapper, releasing mixtapes and a solo album throughout his career. Jelly Roll had a bit of controversy when attempting to rise to fame due to his criminal record, including attempted robbery at the age of 14. In 2021, Jelly Roll made the transition to country music where he soon gained traction, and this year he was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist and he took home three awards on Sunday, including the CMT Performance of the Year.
- IShowSpeed got RKO’d through a table at WrestleMania XL. Later in the night Cody Rhodes finished his story and defeated Roman Reigns in a “Bloodline Rules” match that featured Jimmy and Jey Uso, Solo Sikoa, John Cena, The Rock, Seth Rollins, The Undertaker. Rhodes is now the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
Music Madness!
- Billie Eilish announced her third full-length studio album yesterday, “Hit Me Hard and Soft”, set to release on May 17th of this year. Her announcement came with some drama, however, after Rolling Stone published an article about the album, including the entire track list. Eilish took to social media to voice her anger and frustration with the magazine after she planned to make the song titles a surprise for listeners. Rolling Stone has since removed the tracklist from the article, but multiple other sources have already shared the titles on their platforms.
- Social media is buzzing for Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts tour opener, Chappell Roan, after many videos of her eccentric stage presence and fun lyricism have gone viral online. Roan recently appeared on NPR’s popular music segment, “Tiny Desk Concert”, where she performed fully in drag. Roan’s newest album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”, has many listeners finding solace in her journey of joining the LGBTQ community following multiple disappointing relationships. Roan has created dances for her music, catchy bridges, and a fun experience for all concert goers.
