In Must Know News:
- Former President Trump has been indicted again for his efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election following the Supreme Court immunity ruling. The indictment charges Trump with the same counts he faced in the original summons last August, which includes conspiracy to defraud the United States. However, prosecutors made changes to their argument to account for the immunity ruling, which bars them from using official presidential acts as evidence against Trump.
- An Israeli hostage was rescued after 326 days of captivity in Gaza. The hostage, Qaid Farhan Alkadi, was discovered alone in an underground tunnel by Israeli troops, and has since been returned to a hospital in Israel, where he is surrounded by family. Alkadi is the 8th hostage of 250 to be rescued since the October 7th attack.
- Donald Trump has added both former rival RFK Jr. and Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard to his presidential transition team. The team would make staffing and policy decisions in the event of a Trump/Vance win in November. Despite both being elected Democrats, they both endorsed the former president within the past week.
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that his troops’ march into the Kursk region is a step of the “victory plan” he intends to present to President Biden next month. Currently, Ukraine holds claim to 1,294 sq km of Russian territory and continues to test domestically produced weaponry as they hope to reduce dependency on Western military aid.
- U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan landed in Beijing this week to talk with Chinese officials in hopes of easing tensions before the November 5th U.S. election. Key issues being discussed include the Middle East, Ukraine, Taiwan, trade, and fentanyl production. The U.S. seeks to prevent conflicts and enhance AI safety, whereas China will express concerns of tariffs and sovereignty claims.
