Today's Script
Hello everyone! Today is July 26th, and happy Friday! My name is Gabe and you are listening to Current2, brought to you by Just Bagels! Let’s end this week with today’s top stories.
In Must Know News:
- A recent NYT/Siena College poll has found that former President Donald Trump now only leads Vice President Kamala Harris by one percentage point among likely voters in a score of 48 to 47 percent. With Harris recent success in fundraising and amongst voters, she undoubtedly seems to be Trump’s challenger come November; in response, the super PAC Maga Inc. has and is pouring up to $12 million dollars a week into new political ads targeting Harris. Boy, oh, boy, it’s gonna be a crazy election season.
- Nearly 25,000 residents in and around the town of Jasper have been forced to flee their home after a fast-moving wildfire in the Canadian Rockies consumed the forest and nearly half the city’s structures. There were no immediate reports of injuries, but nevertheless, the destruction did not stop at the town, as the neighboring national park of the same name was too engulfed in high, towering flames officials described as a “wall of fire.”
- Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered the removal of homeless encampments in California following the Supreme Court ruling last month that allowed cities to enforce bans on sleeping in public spaces. The executive order aims to target the overabundance of tent encampments whilst working with local service providers to support its inhabitants and store their belongings for at least two months.

In Other Notable News:
- Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance wrote the introduction to an upcoming book from the architect of Project 2025. Despite Trump’s attempts to distance himself from the project that claims America is due for a second revolution, Vance accepted the job, even telling readers to quote “load the muskets.” And the cherry on top, the book's original subtitle was “Burning Down Washington to Save America,” so there’s that.
- Just days before the start of the Olympics, 2 French teens were arrested for plotting potential terrorist attacks on the event. Their motive remains unknown.
- Climate activists in Germany caused more than 100 flights to be canceled in the country’s largest airport. Protestors breached security fences and climbed into the runways to draw attention to the threat posed by climate change after Monday was the hottest day ever recorded.
- A court case will soon answer the age old question: who invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos? A former PepsiCo exec is suing the company for defamation and fraud after he claimed they stole the idea from him. He was just a janitor when he invented the snack, and moved up in the company because of his discovery, but PepsiCo later claimed differently.
That’s all today folks, we here at Current2 hope you had a great week and have an even greater weekend. If you liked this episode, make sure to share it with your friends! And as always, thank you for listening to Current2, the easy way to stay informed!
