Good morning everyone! Happy Tuesday, today is July 23rd, my name is Gabe and you’re listening to Current2, brought to you by Just Bagels!
In Must Know News:
- Kamala Harris' team raised an astonishing figure of $81 million in donations following President Biden’s exit from the presidential race Sunday, shattering the record for the largest single-day total sum of donations in American history. With Harris now the first name on the 2024 ticket, a revitalized Democratic party is looking to the swing states for the VP nominee, with possible choices including Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, aka Big Gretch, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigeg, aka Mayor Pete, and former astronaut now turned senator Mark Kelly of Arizona. He doesn’t have a nickname, as far as I know…
- At least 70 people in Gaza have been killed by Israeli air strikes around the southern city of Khan Younis, according to the region’s health ministry. The strikes come after Israel ordered the evacuation of certain districts within a designated humanitarian zone in Gaza following intelligence reports that placed Hamas forces attempting to regroup within those areas.
- Democratic and Republican lawmakers of the House Oversight Committee ripped into Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle’s testimony Monday after she repeatedly dodged questions related to the security failures that led to the near assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13th. Though Cheatle took full responsibility and called the attack “the most significant operational failure” for the Secret Service in decades, a significant number of committee members nonetheless joined together in bipartisan calls for her resignation from the agency. You’ve got to have sorely, sorely messed up at your job to get Congress to agree on anything these days…

In Other Notable News:
- A new trial date has been set after a mistrial in the case of Karen Read, a Massachusetts woman accused of killing her boyfriend. The retrial will take place in January with a new set of jurors, who can hopefully clear up such a contentious case.
- Eminem’s new album “the Death of Slim Shady (Coupe de Grace)” hit the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200, knocking down Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poet’s Department” after its historic 12 week stint.
- Trailing behind most other airlines after the recent cyberattack, Delta’s CEO just announced that they will still need a few more days before operations recover and planes are back in the air. You know, what I keep thinking about is all the people who've been stuck while waiting for their connecting flight. Worst layover ever.
- In an interesting new study, researchers found that chimps communicate in a back and forth way, very similar to humans. An analysis of wild chimps saw that, albeit with sign language, they hold fast, reactive conversations between individuals. I hope this means I can eventually have an awesome chimp-bro, and not a prelude to the planet of the apes.
