In Must Know News:

  • Progressive activists are coming out full swing this week at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Sunday began with a large abortion rights protest to push democratic lawmakers to take their pro-choice stance international, and other protests to follow include a push for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. At least 20,000 people are expected to march as they demand their voices to be heard.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday that the main goal of the Kursk invasion was to create a buffer zone to prevent further attacks by Russia. This marks the first clear message from Zelenskyy regarding the August 6th operation, while also shifting from the original goal to protect border communities in the Sumy region to creating a massive counter offense against Russian war potential.
  • US Secretary of State Antony Blinken made his ninth visit to Israel to push for a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza. This visit comes days after the modified proposal by the U.S. as they optimistically work towards a solution. Hamas still views this idea of progress as an ‘illusion’ as there is no clear indication whether or not Israeli forces will be forced to completely withdraw from the Gaza Strip.
  • The tropical storm formerly known as Hurricane Ernesto reclaimed its hurricane status yesterday,  threatening swimmers across the East Coast with powerful rip currents that led New York City officials to close all beaches through the end of Sunday. Ernesto’s wind speeds just barely crossed the threshold of a Category 1 hurricane, hitting 75 mph and earning the title only by a single mile—- nevertheless, stay safe everybody!
  • Finally, Donald Trump continued his latest barrage of attacks against Vice President Kamala Harris, focusing on the economy, Joe Biden’s departure from the race, and—get this—-his opponent’s appearance, ditching the script and claiming that he is a “much better looking person than Kamala.” I didn’t realize our elections were determined by the prettiest face. How in the hell did Millard Fillmore win?

That’s all for today, folks! If you liked this episode, make sure to share it with your friends. Have a happy Monday, and thanks for listening to Current2, the easy way to stay informed!
