In Other Notable News:

  • Germany plans to cut its military aid to Ukraine in half next year. The 3 billion dollar budget cut is the result of overall spending cuts within the German government, leaving little wiggle room for foreign aid.
  • Lionel Messi is facing calls to apologize after a video came out of the Argentinian team singing a racist chant after their Copa America win. It is unclear if Messi himself engaged in the chant, but as the team captain and president of Argentina’s soccer federation, it’s kind of in his job description.
  • A Stegosaurus skeleton sold for almost 45 million dollars at Sotheby’s auction. The high-class dino, appropriately named Apex, set the record for most expensive dinosaur fossil ever sold. What makes him so special, you ask? The fossil is nearly completely intact, as well as one of the most recognizable in the world.
  • Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo took a swim in the Seine river to prove its cleanliness before the Olympic games. Earlier this year, the Seine tested positive for E. coli, but has since been cleaned up; at least, I hope so, or else Paris will need some Olympic sized bathrooms!

That’s all for your news today. If you liked this episode, be sure to share it with your friends! Have a great Thursday and thank you for listening to Current2, the easy way to stay informed!
