In Must Know News:
- President Joe Biden gave a speech at the DNC yesterday, kicking off the week-long event by upholding the power of women, efforts towards a Gaza ceasefire, and commenting on his advanced age as president. Despite the lengthy speech from the president and many other speakers, the convention was largely overshadowed by protestors demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, even interrupting Biden’s address at one point to wave the Palestinian flag.
- Former New York Representative George Santos pled guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft after being ousted from his position last winter. The Republican ex-congressman said that he made financial misrepresentations and stole money in order to receive funding for his campaign. Santos now faces anywhere from 2 to 22 years behind bars in a trial that is expected to last until February.
- Retired federal judge and longtime conservative J. Michael Luttig endorsed Kamala Harris’ bid for presidency. He claimed that, despite their vastly different political views, she is the only major candidate that will protect American democracy. Lately, Luttig has become one of the most prominent conservative voices to speak out against Donald Trump.
- A seemingly failed bomb attack in Tel Aviv on Monday has been claimed by Hamas and another Palestinian militant group. It is believed that the bomb went off prematurely as the attacker was only a few meters from a full synagogue. The bomber was the only one killed and a bystander was injured.
- and finally, British tech magnate Mike Lynch and five others are missing after their luxury superyacht sank during a freak storm near Sicily early on Monday. Despite rescue efforts, only one body has been recovered, but Lynch’s wife and 14 others were saved. Divers continue to navigate dangerous waters to find the missing 6, and authorities suspect a waterspout caused the incident.
