- The EPA banned asbestos on Monday, bringing an end to widespread use of the carcinogen in the US. The ruling will ban chrysotile asbestos, which is found in chlorine bleach, brake pads, and some water purification systems. The ban has been more than 30 years in the making and hopes to curb the tens of thousands of asbestos-related deaths each year.
