Apple’s New AI (NBC, Reuters)

Apple announced Apple AI at their annual Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday. This new feature will integrate Open AI’S Chat GPT software to focus on AI for future handheld technology. At the same time, Apple made privacy a core principle of their newest programs, setting them apart from competitors like Microsoft and Google. 

Far Right Falls Short (Reuters, CNN)

Despite a projected win in a snap election for the far-right National Rally in France, they fell short of an absolute majority in a recently published opinion poll. This election comes after President Emmanuel Macron’s shocking decision to dissolve parliament. This failing surge of far-right leaders was seen across the entire continent, with predictions of far-right power upending European politics not coming to fruition, but some liberal and green seats being lost in European Parliament. 

U.N. Security Council Passes U.S. Created Ceasefire Proposal (NBC, AP)

The U.N. Security Council passed a U.S. drafted cease-fire proposal for Gaza yesterday, with a goal of an 8 month ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The proposal was finalized on Sunday after a week of deliberation, and successfully obtained the nine votes needed to pass. China and Russia, both of which have previously vetoed all cease-fire bills in the past, made no move to block this vote, with Russia abstaining. 

Pre-Sentencing Interview For Trump (NBC)

Donald Trump met with a NYC probation officer this Monday for a virtual pre-sentencing interview following his guilty verdict in last month’s hush money trial. The interview was conducted with Trump’s attorney Todd Blanche at his side. 

VP Of Malawi Missing In The Mountains (AP)

A plane carrying the vice president of the African nation Malawi went missing in the forested hills of the Viphya mountain range. A massive search is underway to find VP Saulos Chilima, and president Lazarus Chakwera claims he will not stop until the plane is found. 

Civil Rights Leader Rev. Lawson Jr Passes Away (AP)

Civil Rights Movement activist Rev. James Lawson Jr. died yesterday at the age of 95. Lawson was a lifelong champion of nonviolent protest and a close advisor of Martin Luther King Jr., who called him “the leading theorist and strategist of nonviolence in the world.”   

African Elephants Have Names… kind of (CBS)

A new study found that a species of African elephants have distinct name-like calls for each other that are used similarly to human names. The discovery is revolutionary, and has the potential to alter scientists’ understanding of the “express power of language evolution.”
