Summary
Today’s discussion kicked off with the controversy surrounding USA gymnast Jordan Chiles, who was ordered to return her bronze medal from the 2024 Paris Olympics due to a late appeal that bumped her score. Jones and Eli debated the fairness of this decision, with both firmly siding with Chiles. The conversation then shifted to the difficulty of gymnastics, with Jones ranking it as the hardest Olympic sport, while Eli humorously claimed he could excel in easier events like shooting. Finally, they discussed the surprising and disappointing performance of Australian breakdancer Reagan, who, despite having a PhD in breakdancing, struggled in the Olympic event.

Welcome back to Gimme5 with Jones and Eli here on Current 2. He's Jones. I'm Eli Jones. I got a good story for you today. Excited to hear it. USA gymnast Jordan Schiles was ordered to give back her bronze medal from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games for her floor routine. Why was that? Well, I'll tell ya, the Court of Arbitration for Sport has voided an appeal by Childs' coach that brought her up to third place, claiming the appeal was four seconds after the minute time limit for scoring inquiries. Now, it doesn't say this in the article, but I actually watched a little bit of this live. Basically, what happened was she got a certain score, she got fourth, then they appealed the score, which I don't know how you can really appeal a score, it's kind of a score, and then she got a new, better score, got moved up to third place. But now, somebody is disputing it and she's getting moved back down to fourth. That doesn't seem too fair. I feel like once the milk is out of the udder on that, the milk's out of the udder now. Well, my thinking on it is it just kind of opens up a whole can of worms of where do we draw the line? Right? Could I go back now? Because obviously there has to be a kind of a statute of limitations on this thing, right? Like, at a certain point, could I go back and review the Dez Bryant catch in the 2011 wild card game or whatever now if I don't like it? No. Well, think that's nowhere near the same. Over a decade later and a minute later, I think the statute of limitations. When the ref rejects it, if the ref, if the ref or official or whoever does this stuff or the scorers accepted it and then changed it, you can't now go back and change it again. So where do you draw the line? Somewhere between a minute and a decade. Where's the line? No, I agree with you. So you think the Olympic, the court of arbitration for sport is wrong. They're so wrong. They're extremely wrong. I'm Team Chiles from day one. I've been a fan. I'm on there. Your team child's on this. I know you have you had a couple posters of her I when you were a kid I know but the the question on that post you Jones and this is just off the top of the dome you know I'm a big Olympics guy My dream to be in the Olympics one day actually Gymnastics you think you could do it yes or no? In what context? Casually? in the Olympics. Now, yeah, like socially, yes, but I'm talking professional here. there would be no Olympic success for me. And if you would make the claim that you could, I would refute it 200%. Well, I don't think I could now, but I think if I trained from a young age, I feel like it's kind of a sport that you're just, if you train a lot, you can do it. Maybe, maybe I think gymnastics is one of the hardest sports in the Olympics. That's why. What's your hardest? Give me your hardest rankings. Gymnastics one, the two I'll throw gymnastics three. Give me some more gymnastics. It's just the hardest. Everything else is pretty easy. Like the guy who's getting hype from, I don't know where he's from. Was it Turkey? Was it Germany? No, it's Turkey. The guy for shooting. Dude, anybody could do that. That shit's so easy. That shit is so easy. The shooting guy? Really? So you back yourself to go up there and just shoot a target? 100 % and I wouldn't wear glasses either. I'd take these shits off. Actually, he was wearing glasses like this instead of like shooting glasses. I have. Went fine, I've shot plenty of paintballs. It was great. Have you ever shot a gun before, Have you ever shot again before? And how to go for ya? Yeah. But don't you feel like it's different up there on the stage? You got people cheering your name, yelling at you in Turkish. You don't think the nerves would get to you at all? Well, the yelling at me in Turkish, would definitely fluster me. Yeah, yeah, no, there's no question there. But I still think that one's the easiest. There are other easy ones. Let's see, go through the Rolodex here. I mean, break dancing, yeah, I think, yeah. If you're from Australia, it's very, very easy to be the best, apparently. That would throw you off. I mean, the obvious one, yeah, yeah. Breakdancing is a joke. Yeah, that's actually, I was reading a story on that. think it's harder, most people in Australia have a hard time not qualifying for the Olympics. It's actually impressive. If you go in Australia and you ask somebody, did you qualify for Olympic breakdancing? And they say no. Those are the people to get the autographs off, because it's pretty hard. Yes, he certainly seems like the minority is there are the ones not qualifying there. That was a really rough showing. Did you watch that? I didn't watch it live, but I've seen my TikTok page flooded with clips and I kind of feel bad. I do too. She's a doctor of breakdancing. And you suck that bad? What? A doctor? She's a PhD in the art of breakdancing, which I didn't even know was possible. MD, is it a call of the net? a PhD or a PBD? Professional? What does PD, what does PhD stand for? pretty huge. don't know if it's the best degree you could have. I'm pretty sure you're a doctor. Ha Yeah, yeah, it's pretty good. That's impressive that yeah But she studied breakdancing her whole life and she went to the Olympics and her name is also ray gun isn't that like a Weapon despicable me. Yeah, and perhaps halo a few of those things. So she could have had so many careers. Breakdancing is interesting that she went that way, especially being the level of suckage that's going on. Mmm. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't a great showing from her. We hope you enjoyed listening to Gimme a Five. We want to know your thoughts on Jordan Chiles bronze medal, on Regan the dancer, on whether Jones and I could compete at the Olympics in any sport. And Jones, it was great talking to you. Thanks for talking Eli, we'll talk soon.
