Today's News

Israeli Protests

Tens of thousands of Israelis flooded the streets demanding a ceasefire after 6 more hostages were found dead in Gaza. The protest was the largest in the 11 months of conflict as the country remains deeply divided on Palestine. On top of that, Israel's largest trade union, Histadrut, called for a strike today in order to put more pressure on the government. The strike could shut down banks, health care, and even Israel's largest airport.

AfD to Win in Germany

Germany's far right party, called Alternative for Germany or AfD, is set to win the eastern regional election. This will be the first time a far right party has won a German election since World War II, giving it unprecedented power within a new global Era. With over 33% of the vote, the AfD could block decisions requiring a two thirds majority to pass, such as the appointment of judges and top security officials.

Ukraine Drone Attack

Ukraine launched a massive drone attack targeting Russian energy infrastructure. Russia successfully downed 158 drones overnight, including 11 over Moscow as Russian officials scramble to respond. As a result of the attacks, several fires broke out at damaged power plants and oil refineries, however no deaths or injuries were reported. In response, Russia unleashed another missile attack into northeastern Ukraine.

X Suspended in Brazil

Brazil’s watchdog telecommunications regulator has suspended access to the social network X following a court order from a judge after a months-long dispute with CEO Elon Musk. This comes after the platform missed a court deadline to appoint a Brazil legal representative. Musk continues to push that the regulations are enforcing unjust censorship, but the judge argues for the need for hate speech regulation across social media.

Supreme Court Ethics

In a recent CBS interview, Supreme Court Justice Katanji Jackson stated that she would be in favor of an ‘enforceable’ code of ethics for other justices. With other lower judges already having a binding code of ethics, Jackson questions why the Supreme Court should be any different. With debates of a needed code of ethics growing in our current climate, it definitely raises an interesting question.
