IN POLITICAL NEWS
- Ryan Wesley Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump while he was golfing in Florida earlier this month, allegedly wrote a letter detailing his plans for the assassination, prosecutors say. The letter was addressed to “The World” and confirmed Routh’s actions as an assassination attempt, offering $150,000 dollars to whoever quote “can complete the job.” Yikes.
- According to the Pentagon, the U.S is planning on sending more troops to the Middle East following a spike in violence between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon in order to limit the risk for a larger conflict in the region. This increase in troops comes after strikes by Israeli forces against targets inside Lebanon, and news that Israel is preparing to conduct further operations in the near future.
- A pivotal Nebraska state lawmaker, Mike McDonell, said on Monday that he is opposed to changing how the state allocates its electoral college votes, blocking a plan by Trump and allies to win an extra electoral vote this November. Trump’s allies in the state have supported a special legislative session that would change Nebraska’s system for awarding electoral votes from going by congressional district to a winner-take-all approach, like in other states.
- First Lady Jill Biden announced on Monday that the Pentagon will be spending $500 million on women’s health research. This comes as part of a larger plan from the Biden Administration to increase the funding available for the study of women’s health.
- After being shot in the ear at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania in June, Trump is set to return to Butler for a rally next month. The event is scheduled for October 5th, exactly one month before election day, and has not yet been announced publicly.
